System Benefits
- 170t Structural Steel
- 1300m2 Fire Panelling
Brolton Group was awarded the contract to supply and install the secondary steelwork and fire panelling for the new WestConnex M5 tunnel at St Peters Interchange, Bexely, Kingsgrove and Arncliffe
Works included: manufacture drawings, fabrication, testing and installation of the steelwork and fire panels
Due to the location and area of works involved in the installation of the Secondary Support Steelworks, Brolton Group was required to close access to other Contractors and construction traffic to each of the work areas in
the tunnel. A detailed traffic management plan was developed to identify the required closure procedures, barricade locations, access points and detour routes
Detailed site surveys of the tunnel surfaces was essential to confirm all measurements for the prefabrication and processing of support steelwork and fire panels. The fire panels were pre-processed in-house using Brolton's i510-G2 water jet cutter
Approximately 175 tonnes of structural steel and 1300m2 of fire panelling was installed.
Brolton's successful completion of the secondary steelwork and fire panel supply, manufacture and installation lead to additional contract awards for works such as cable support structures, fan supports and various other works in and around the new M5 tunnel.
